Sergeant Major Sael G. Garcia

Sergeant Major Garcia enlisted in the Marine Corps November 1997 in Santa Ana, California. Upon graduation from Marine Corps Recruit Training, Sergeant Major Garcia attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California and then reported to Logistics/Embarkation Specialist School in Coronado, California.  

After earning his Military Occupational Specialty, Sergeant Major Garcia received orders to Headquarters and Service Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.

In April of 2000 Sergeant Major Garcia reported to 3rd Battalion 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton California where he served as the Battalion Embarkation Chief until December 2002.

In January 2003 Sergeant Major Garcia reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California.  Upon completion of Drill Instructor School in March of 2003, Sergeant Major Garcia reported to Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Series Chief Drill Instructor.

After a successful tour as a Drill Instructor in April of 2006, Sergeant Major Garcia received orders to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Quantico, Virginia where he served as the Battalion Logistics Chief. During his tour he also provided support at Officer Candidate School, as a Sergeant Instructor until August 2007.

In September of 2007 Sergeant Major Garcia reported to 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division where he served as the Regimental Logistics Chief until May 2009. During this period, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-9/08-1 with Regimental Combat Team 5 from January 2008 to February 2009.

In May of 2009 Sergeant Major Garcia reported to Officer Candidate School where he served as a Platoon Sergeant for Alpha Company. Sergeant Major Garcia then reported to the University of Minnesota NROTC where he served as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor from August 2009 to August 2011.

In September of 2011 Sergeant Major Garcia reported to 1st Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15, 1st Marine Logistics Group, where he served as the Reparable Management Company First Sergeant from September 2011 to September 2013.

In September of 2013 Sergeant Major Garcia reported to 3rd Battalion 5th Marine Regiment where he served as Company “L” First Sergeant, Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant and Weapons Company First Sergeant until his promotion to Sergeant Major in 2017.

In February of 2017 Sergeant Major Garcia reported to Recruiting Station Albuquerque, 8th Marine Corps District in Albuquerque New Mexico, where he served as the Recruiting Station Sergeant Major until May 2019. 

In May 2019, Sergeant Major Garcia was assigned as the Sergeant Major for 1st Radio Battalion, I MEF Information Group until April 2021.

In April of 2021, Sergeant Major Garcia was transferred to Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii where he served as the Group Sergeant Major for Marine Aircraft Group 24, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing.

Sergeant Major Garcia assumed his current post as the Marine Corps Recruit Depot and Eastern Recruiting Region Sergeant Major on June 2, 2023.

Sergeant Major Garcia has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 4 gold stars and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 1 gold star.
