Lt. Col. Joshua Kissoon

Lt. Col. Joshua Kissoon was born in Guyana, South America, and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He enlisted in April 1990 and was commissioned through the Meritorious Commissioning Program in August 1996. Upon completion of the Ground Supply Officers’ Course, he was assigned to Headquarters and Service Battalion, MCRD Parris Island, as the property control officer. In December 1997, he was reassigned to India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, to serve as series commander. In July 1998, he transferred to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort to serve as the property control officer and later the station supply officer. In February 2000, he returned to Parris Island to complete his tour with Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion.

In September 2001, Kissoon transferred to 1st Radio Battalion, MCB Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, to serve as the supply officer and later logistics officer. In July 2004, he transferred to Headquarters, Marine Forces Reserve, in New Orleans, La., as the materiel management officer. In June 2007, he transferred to Officer Training Command in Newport, R.I., to serve as the senior Marine Corps representative to the Navy’s Officer Candidate and Seaman to Admiral-21 Schools.

In August 2010, Kissoon attended the resident Naval Command and Staff course, Naval War College in Newport, R.I., until his transfer in August 2011 to Blount Island Command in Jacksonville, Fla., to serve as the deputy director, Logistics Division. In December 2013, he deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, as the commanding officer, Marine Corps Logistics Command (Forward).

His operational experiences include two tours as a Latin American Foreign Area Officer with the Joint Peruvian Riverine Training Center, Iquitos, Peru; two tours as an embedded logistics advisor to the Colombian Marine Corps’ 2nd Riverine Brigade Buenaventura, Colombia; Headquarters and Service Company commander, Operation Enduring Freedom, Camp Commando, Kuwait; movement control officer for the Multi-National Security Transition Command Baghdad, Iraq; and operations analyst for ISAF Regional Command South Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Kissoon has a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, Master of Arts degree in Global Leadership from Hawaii Pacific University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Psychology from Park University.

His personal military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

He is married, and they have two children.
