Parris Island to host Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, Drum & Bugle Corps
March 13, 2014
PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. --

– The public is invited to the local performance of the Marine Corps’ world-renowned Silent Drill Platoon, Drum & Bugle Corps and the Marine Corps Color Guard on March 19 at 11 a.m. on Parris Island’s parade deck.

General admission seating is available for the free event; reservations and tickets are not required.

The platoon, corps and color guard comprise the Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment, a ceremonial unit from Marine Barracks Washington. Each year, this highly skilled unit travels worldwide to demonstrate the discipline and professionalism of United States Marines.

A valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and vehicle registration are required to drive on the depot. Visitors are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes early.

With fixed bayonets atop their highly polished rifles, the 24-member Silent Drill Platoon performs an intricate drill routine without verbal commands.

Donned in bold red and white uniforms, the Drum & Bugle Corps combines contemporary songs and traditional marching music with uniquely choreographed drill movements.

The Marine Corps Color Guard carries the official Battle Colors of the Marine Corps. The 54 streamers and silver bands displayed on the battle colors commemorate the military campaigns in which Marines have participated, spanning from the American Revolution to the present.
