'We Make Marines'
Parris Island welcomes newest Marines of Alpha, Papa Company

March 30, 2018


Today's graduation ceremony was a landmark for the 234 new Marines of Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion and 89 new Marines of Papa Company, 4th  Recruit Training Battalion.


Among the new Marines are these distinguished graduates:


  • Pfc. Jaquavious Evans – Decatur, Ga. – Honor Graduate, Platoon 1016

  • Pfc. Colin Thompson  – Cincinnati, Ohio – Honor Graduate, Platoon 1017

  • Pfc. Kyle Bewalda – Big Rapids, Mich. – Honor Graduate, Platoon 1018

  • Pfc. Heith Brown – Hillboro, Ohio – Honor Graduate, Platoon 1020

  • Pfc. David Bemm – Pittsburg, Pa. – Honor Graduate, Platoon 1021

  • Pfc. Christian Dossenback – Charlotte, N.C. – High Shooter, Platoon 1021

  • Pfc. Jedidias Kirkpatrick-Tolbert – Dorchester, Mass. – High PFT/CFT, Platoon 1020

  • Pfc. Melissa Rivera – Dallas, Texas – Honor Graduate, Platoon 4010

  • Pfc. Brianna Rauch – New Orleans, La. – Honor Graduate, Platoon 4011

  • Pvt. Amanda Mitchell – Denver, Colo. – High Shooter, Platoon 4011

  • Pfc. Alexis Oshea – Pittsburg, Pa. – High PFT/CFT, Platoon 4011



Each new Marine persevered through 70 training days while passing each of the seven graduation requirements.


Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry– level enlisted training for approximately 49 percent of male recruits and 100 percent of female recruits in the Marine Corps.
