Master Sergeant Christopher Silvera was born in Kingston, Jamaica, raised in Miami,
Florida, and graduated from Miramar High School in June 1993. Master Sergeant Silvera enlisted in the
Marine Corps on November 2, 1993 and attended 2d Recruit Training Battalion,
Golf Company, Platoon 2133, aboard MCRD Parris Island, SC. He graduated in January 1994 and was
transferred to Camp Geiger, NC for Marine Combat Training. Private Silvera attended Motor Transport
School for Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training aboard Camp Johnson,
NC. He was promoted to the rank of
Private First Class on May 1, 1994.
In June of 1994, he was assigned to 8th Communications Battalion, Camp
Lejeune, North Carolina (CLNC). He was
promoted to Lance Corporal on Jan 1, 1995.
He deployed to Norway for cold weather training in February 1995. In August of 1996, LCpl Silvera received
orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, Okinawa Japan. He did OJT and was given a secondary MOS of
a 3521 which is a Motor Transport Mechanic.
He was promoted to the rank of Corporal on September 1, 1996. After a short period Cpl Silvera achieved the
position of Floor Chief, which was a Sgt billet, above the Marines that were
In September of 1996 Cpl Silvera was sent back to Camp Lejeune to 3d
Battalion 10th Marine Regiment. With his
mechanic expertise he was assigned as the line NCO for Headquarters Battery. Cpl Silvera was promoted to Sergeant on
February 1, 1998. Sgt Silvera was
hazmat/ammo qualified and also held the billet as refueler for the battery. Sgt Silvera received orders to MWSS 272, MCAS
New River, NC and was assigned to Support Company. He was assigned as the section head for
Medium Section which was a Staff NCO billet.
In February of 2001, Sgt Silvera was transferred to 2d Battalion, 2d
Marine Regiment, CLNC. He was assigned
as the Chief Dispatcher.
In January 2002, Sergeant Silvera attended Drill Instructor School aboard
MCRD, Parris Island, South Carolina where he served as a Drill Instructor and
Senior Drill Instructor for India Company, 3d Recruit Training Battalion. On November 1, 2002 Sergeant Silvera was
promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In
May of 2005, SSgt Silvera was transferred to 8th Engineer Support Battalion,
CLNC. He served as the Platoon Commander
and Platoon Sergeant. In March 2007 he
deployed to Iraq in Support of OIF serving as Route Repair Chief. On September 1, 2007 he was promoted to
Gunnery Sergeant. Gunnery Sergeant
Silvera transferred to 3d Battalion, 12 Marine Regiment, Okinawa Japan in June
of 2008. While there he served as the
Battery First Sergeant, Battery Gunnery Sergeant, Battalion and Battery Motor
transport Chiefs. In July of 2010 GySgt
Silvera was transferred to the Staff NCO Academy and assigned to Sergeant’s
Course as an instructor.
In July of 2011 GySgt Silvera received orders to Truck Company, 2d Marine
Division, CLNC. He was assigned as the
Company Gunnery Sergeant. GySgt Silvera
deployed to Afghanistan in November of 2012 in support of OEF 122 and 131. He held the position of Operations Chief for
the Special Forces Advisory Team for the Afghanistan National Army. On February 1, 2014 he was promoted to Master
Sergeant and received orders to 2d Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, CLNC. He was assigned as the Battalion Motor
Transport Chief. In March 2015 Master
Sergeant Silvera was transferred to his current position as the Chief
Instructor for Drill Instructor School MCRD Parris Island, SC.
His personal awards include the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the
Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (second award), and the Good Conduct Medal
Master Sergeant Silvera is married to the former Traveese Harbin and has
two children from a previous marriage, Christian (19), and Jewell (16).
