Sergeant Major Demetrius L. Hadley entered the delayed enlisted program between his junior and senior year of high school. Upon graduation, he was shipped off to Parris Island Recruit Depot in August 1990 to begin his passage into becoming a Marine. He graduated 8 November 1990 and reported to Camp Geiger, NC, in late November for Marine Combat Training (MCT). Following MCT, he completed Motor Transport School in Camp Johnson, NC, where he was the honor graduate and earned the military occupational specialty Logistic Vehicle System (LVS) Operator (3533).
Private First Class Hadley reported to 8th Motor Transport Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC, in March 1991, where he served on the Onslow Beach Detachment and was promoted to Lance Corporal. In 1992, he was selected to serve with Marine Expeditionary Unit Service Support Group 26 (MSSG-26), where he worked for two years and was promoted to Corporal. In January 1995, he was assigned to MSSG-22 and fulfilled the duties of platoon sergeant and line NCO before being promoted to Sergeant. He returned to 8th Motor Transport Battalion in September 1997 and was subsequently promoted to Staff Sergeant.
Hadley reported to the Motor Transport Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, MI, in April 2009 to serve as a LVS instructor. He was named Motor Transport Instructor of the Year in 2001. In June 2002, Staff Sergeant Hadley reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 (MWSS-271), Cherry Point, NC, to serve as Motor Transport Chief. From February to June 2003, Staff Sergeant Hadley deployed as the Truck Master in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM/Operation IRAQI FREEDOM with Motor Transport Platoon. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in June 2004 and assumed the duties of Squadron Gunnery Sergeant and platoon sergeant for the Immediate Response Platoon. In this capacity, he deployed in March 2004 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In 2006, he assumed the duties of Company First Sergeant, Truck Company, and deployed again in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in March 2007.
In February 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Hadley was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and transferred to Headquarters Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC, where he served as Truck Company First Sergeant. In March 2010, First Sergeant Hadley received PCA orders to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines, where he served as Company I First Sergeant. In August 2010, he deployed as a member of Battalion Landing Team 3/8, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, which was called upon to serve in Afghanistan for a period of six months. In October 2011, First Sergeant Hadley received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 7, Twentynine Palms, CA, where he served as Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant. In May 2013, 1stSgt Hadley was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major and transferred to 2d Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC, where he served as the Battalion Sergeant Major. Sergeant Major Hadley received PCA orders to 2d Combat Engineer Battalion on 31 March 2016 to serve as the Battalion Sergeant Major. Sergeant Major Hadley assumed his current duties as Sergeant Major of Headquarters and Service Battalion MCRD, Parris Island on 21 July 2017.
Sergeant Major Hadley’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold star, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of subsequent awards, Navy and Marine Achievement Medal with three gold stars, and Combat Action Ribbon.
Sergeant Major Hadley is married to Angela Hadley and they have one daughter, Demetria.
