Colonel Gregory R. Curtis

Colonel Curtis was born in California. He attended California State University at San Bernardino and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1996; later he graduated from Kansas State University with a Masters of Art in Security Studies.  He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 1997. 
Upon completion of The Basic School, Lieutenant Curtis attended Flight training at Naval Air Station Whiting Field. Lieutenant Curtis’ first assignment was to MAG-24. From 2000 – 2004, Lieutenant Curtis served in multiple billets with HMH-363, HMH-463, and HMM-265 in Safety, Maintenance and Operations, completed two WESTPAC deployments and one with the 31st MEU as the theater reserve for USCENTCOM. He earned flight designations as an Assault Flight Leader, Night Systems Instructor, Assistant NATOPS Instructor and Instrument Instructor. Additionally, he completed non-resident Amphibious Warfare School and was promoted to Captain. In 2004, Captain Curtis was transferred to Naval Air Station Whiting Field and assigned to VT-6 as a flight instructor.
From 2004 – 2007,  Captain Curtis served in the Operations department for VT-6 and earned the USMC (MCAA) Fixed Wing Primary Instructor of the Year Award. Additionally, Captain Curtis completed non-resident Command and Staff prior to returning to the Fleet and MAG-24 in 2007 where he completed two deployments. The first was to Iraq as the III Corps HQs JOC OIC, and the second was to Afghanistan as the Maintenance Officer for HMH-463. During this tour, Captain Curtis was promoted to Major and selected for the US Army Command and General Staff College with a follow-on Joint tour. 
Upon completion of school, Major Curtis was transferred back to Hawaii and assigned to USPACOM as the J3 C2 Systems Branch Chief.  While at USPACOM, Major Curtis completed Joint PME II in Norfolk, VA, received the additional MOS as a NE Asia RAO and became the Aide-de-Camp to the DCDRUSPACOM.  At the completion of the Joint tour, Major Curtis, was designated a Joint Specialty Officer, completed the CH53E transition, transferred to MAG-24 to become the Operations Officer and was selected for Lieutenant Colonel.  
In 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Curtis deployed the majority of MAG-24 to Australia in support of exercises Koolendon and Talisman Sabre where he served as the MEB ACE CO and XO. Lieutenant Colonel Curtis completed his assignment at MAG-24 as the Executive Officer prior to his reassignment to NAS Whiting Field where he served as the Executive Officer and Commanding Officer for HT-28. Following his command tour, LtCol Curtis executed orders to Newport, RI to attend the US Naval War College where he earned his second Masters degree and graduated with Distinction. 
In the spring of 2021, LtCol Curtis PCS’d to III MEF, was promoted to Colonel and assigned as the III MEF Air Officer tasked to prepare the Air Center for crisis and conflict.  For his last year at III MEF, he served as the III MEF Deputy G3 prior to accepting orders to PCS and assume command of Headquarters and Service Battalion, Parris Island.
Colonel Curtis’ personal awards include: Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Air Medal (Single Mission), Air Medal (5 Strike), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), and numerous unit awards.
