- Inspections will be conducted with minimum interference to the normal work and training schedules of inspected organizations.
- The inspections will be short-notice inspections with typically less than a four calendar day notice.

General Guidance and Recommendations on Submitting Complaints or Requests for Assistance
- Complaints or requests for assistance with non-criminal, non-frivolous, and substantive allegations and issues in regards to fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement; whistle-blower reprisal; and other areas of concern can be submitted via the Depot/ERR’s Hotline Program via e-mail, fax, mail, phone, or in-person.
- For all written complaints, please use the Hotline Complaint Form.  The contact information for each of the aforementioned methods of submission is included on the right side of this page.
- Complaints or requests for assistance can also be submitted via the Inspector General of the Marine Corps Hotline Application at
- Anyone can submit a complaint; however, first-party vice third-party complaints are always encouraged.
- Individuals are encouraged to seek resolution at the lowest-level possible and use their chain of command/supervisory chain whenever practical/feasible.
- Complaints should be filed in as timely a manner as possible.  Complaints are preferred to be received within 90 days of the causal event. At a minimum, complaints should be made within 1 year of gaining knowledge of the causal event and 3 years of the actual causal event’s occurrence. If the complaint is outside these timelines, extraordinary circumstances as to the delay should be provided along with the complaint.
- Anonymous complaints are welcome.  However, if submitting an anonymous complaint, it is extremely important that as many details as possible are provided, since the CIG will be unable to contact you for more information.
- Confidentiality is essential to the integrity of the IG process and will be ensured to the maximum extent possible.
The identity of case persons, to include complainants and subjects, will be protected from unauthorized or unnecessary disclosure outside of IG channels; however, confidentiality is never guaranteed.
