Juan P. Segura was born in Dominican Republic, on 24 August 1981. He graduated from Barbara Goleman Senior High School in Miami, Florida in 2000. Juan P. Segura enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2000 and attended recruit training at Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island where he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of private first class. Upon completion of recruit training in September of 2000, Private first class Segura attended Alpha Company, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry at Camp Geiger.
He was assigned the military occupational specialty 0311, infantry rifleman. In December 2000, Private first class Segura reported to Alpha Company, Marine Barracks 8th & I. While at Marine Barracks 8th & I, private first class Segura attended Silent Drill School and was selected to serve with the elite “Marching 24” man platoon. Private first class Segura was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in March of 2001 and was selected as a silent drill school instructor in September 2001. In October 2002 Lance Corporal Segura was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Corporal Segura served as infantry squad leader until he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September 2004 and served as the platoon guide. In December 2004 Sergeant Segura received orders to 2nd Battalion 7th Marines and deployed to Fallujah Iraq in support of operation Iraqi Freedom serving as an infantry squad leader in July 2005. Sergeant Segura then attended infantry squad leader’s course and was distinguished as a member of the Super Squad. In January 2007 Sergeant Segura redeployed with 2nd Battalion 7th Marines to Saqlawiah Iraq.
In March 2008, Sergeant Segura was combat meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and reappointed as a Company gunnery Sergeant for 7th Marine Regiment. In December 2009 Staff Sergeant Segura received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, And was assigned to Kilo Company 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, where he was the recipient of the GySgt Nichol’s award and served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor.
December 2011 Staff Sergeant Segura reported to 3rd Battalion 6th Marines, Kilo Company and was assigned as a platoon sergeant. In February 2012 Staff Sergeant Segura attended Infantry Unit leaders Course at Camp Geiger NC. Upon completion he was assigned as a team chief for the 2nd Kandak 215th Corps with a Marine detachment of foreign advisors. In September 2012 Staff Sergeant Segura deployed to Helmand Province Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In April 2013, Staff Sergeant Segura was reassigned to Kilo Company 3rd Battalion 6th Marines as the WPNS Platoon Sergeant. In August 2014 he was promoted to the rank of GySgt, and deployed with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to the CENTCOM theater of operations.
In October 2015 he received orders to I&I duty with Alpha Company 1st Battalion 24th Marines as the operations chief. In October 2017 he deployed to Helmand Province Afghanistan attached to Task Force South West, in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, And was selected to his current rank of 1stSgt in February 2018. 1st Sgt Segura received orders to MCRD Parris Island, 1st Recruit Training Battalion Charlie Company 1stSgt, and was then subsequently re-assigned to serve as the Drill Instructor School 1stSgt in June 2020.
1stSgt Segura’s personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V” and four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star in lieu of second award.
