Master Sergeant Jose A. Mireles was born in Midland, TX. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended recruit training in Company A, First Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, CA, on July 2002. He reported to Company I, School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, California where he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT). Upon graduating MCT, he was sent to MOS school at Camp Johnson, North Carolina where he earned the MOS 3043, Supply Administration and Operations Specialist.
In December 2002, Private First Class Mireles reported for duty to Supply Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group (FSSG), Camp Lejeune, NC. Shortly after, he was promoted to Lance Corporal in June 2003 and deployed to FOB Kalsu, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as part of Maintenance Detachment, Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Service Support Group (MSSG) 24, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit from June 2004 to February 2005. He was promoted to Corporal in December 2004.
In January 2006, Corporal Mireles was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and reported to 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), MEF Headquarters Group (MHG), where he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq from December 2007 to February 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sergeant Mireles served as the Transition Team Supply NCOIC for G-3 Iraqi Security Force (ISF), I MHG in Fallujah, Iraq.
In July 2009, Sergeant Mireles received orders to Drill Instructor School Class 4-09, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. Upon completion of Drill Instructor school, he reported to Company B, First Recruit Training Battalion where he served as Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor. Sergeant Mireles was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant on February 2010. In June 2012 Staff Sergeant Mireles received orders to Drill Instructor School West, where he served as Basic Warrior Training (BWT), Physical Fitness and Squad Instructor.
In October 2013, Staff Sergeant Mireles received orders to Inspector-Instructor & Independent (I&I) Staff, Headquarters and Support Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as the Battalion Supply Chief.
In December 2014, Staff Sergeant Mireles was assigned to Battalion Landing Team 3/1 Reinforced (REIN), 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as the Battalion Supply Chief. During his assignment, Staff Sergeant Mireles deployed aboard the USS Anchorage as a part of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. During his deployment Staff Sergeant Mireles was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in October 2015.
In March 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Mireles received orders to Recruiting Station Los Angeles (RSLA) where he served as the Station Supply Chief, Substance Abuse Control Officer (SACO), and Family Readiness Officer (FRO).
In May 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Mireles received orders to Combat Instructor Battalion (CIB), The Basic School (TBS), Training Command, Quantico, VA, where he served as the Battalion Supply Officer for CIB and the Regimental Supply Chief for The Basic School. In March of 2020 Gunnery Sergeant Mireles was promoted to his current rank of Master Sergeant.
In May of 2020, Master Sergeant Mireles received orders to Drill Instructor School East, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC where he is currently serving as the Chief Instructor.
Master Sergeant Mireles’ personal awards include the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal (1 Bronze Star in lieu of Second Award), the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal (4 Bronze Stars in lieu of Fifth Award).
