Lieutenant Colonel Kearney currently serves as the Second Recruit Training Battalion Commander since 22 February, 2022. He was commissioned in September of 2005 following his graduation from Juniata College with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Information Technology. From 2007- 2008 he served as the 3d Marine Division Collections Manager G-2, Okinawa Japan. In January of 2008 he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) as an Embedded Training Team leader in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.
Upon return from deployment he was assigned as the HQ Company Commander and Regimental S-2 for 4th Marine Regiment from 2009-2010. He then joined 3d Reconnaissance Battalion as a Reconnaissance Platoon Commander and deployed aboard the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as an Amphibious Reconnaissance Platoon Commander within the PACOM Area of Responsibility (AOR).
From June 2012- June 2013 he was selected to attend resident Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia.
From June 2013- Jan 2014 he served as the Commanding Officer for H&S Company and then went onto serve as the 2d Force Reconnaissance Company Commander from 2014-2016. During this time he deployed as the Maritime Raid Force Commander aboard the 26th MEU into the CENTCOM AOR.
From June 2016- May 2019 he served as an Operational Planning Team Leader at Joint Task Force ARES, US Cyber Command.
From June 2019- June 2021 he served as the Training Command Ft Gordon Detachment Commander in Fort Gordon, Georgia.
From June 2021- Feb 2022 he served as the Combat Mission Team 3 Commander at Joint Force Headquarters, Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command.
Lieutenant Colonel Kearney is a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Basic Reconnaissance Course, Marine Air-Ground Task Force Intelligence Course, Basic Airborne, and Military Free Fall School. He holds a Master of Science degree in International Relations from Troy University.
His personal decorations include the Bronze Star with Combat “V”, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V”, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
