Biography

Assistant Director, Drill Instructor School
Capt. Tyler C. Garibay

Captain Tyler C. Garibay was born on July 30th, 1992 in El Paso, Texas.  He attended Texas A&M - Kingsville, graduating in 2014 with a Bachelors of Science in Criminology.  In July 2019, Captain Garibay reported to Officer Candidate School and graduated August 2019 earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant.  Upon graduation, Second Lieutenant Garibay checked into The Basics School in August 2019 where he was selected to become a Logistics Officer. In April 2020 he reported to Logistics Officer School where he earned the MOS of 0402.

In July of 2020, Second Lieutenant Garibay reported to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines on Camp Pendleton, CA where he worked as the Maintenance Management Officer of the battalion. In September of 2020, Second Lieutenant  Garibay took over the role of the Assistant S4 Officer. His duties included being responsible for the Battalion Armory, Maintenance Management Program, and coordinating support for deployments and training exercises. He was also responsible for Deploying a SPMAGTF and Battalion Landing Team 15. In August 2021 Second Lieutenant Garibay was promoted to First Lieutenant, First Lieutenant Garibay assumed the role of the Embarkation Officer in preparation of the Battalions Deployment on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In September 2021 First Lieutenant Garibay deployed to Okinawa, JA with Battalion Landing Team 15. First Lieutenant Garibay was tasked with planning the logistical support for Joint Level Training exercises in Thailand, Fuji, Guam, and Hawaii. Additionally, First Lieutenant Garibay was tasked with the redeployment of over 1500 Marines and Sailors upon the conclusion of their deployment.

 

In May 2022, First Lieutenant Garibay was assigned to 5th Marine Regiment as the Motor Transport Platoon Commander. He was responsible with providing transportation support for the regiment and coordinating training for over 700 Marines and Sailors.

 

In May 2023 First Lieutenant Garibay reported to Company A, First Recruit Training Battalion, Parris Island, South Carolina where he immediately attended Series Commanders Course.  He graduated Series Commanders Course in June 2023 and served as the Lead Series Commander for Company A. In December 2023, First Lieutenant Garibay was promoted to Captain. Captain Garibay took over the duties of Company C in April 2024 where he held command until April 2025. After a successful tour as Company Commander, Captain Garibay was selected to assume the role as the Assistant Director of Drill Instructor School on Parris Island, where he currently serves.

Captain Garibay’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
