First Sergeant, Drill Instructor School
1st Sgt. Christopher D. Buch

First Sergeant Buch was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in March 2006 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Bravo Company. He reported to the School of Infantry Camp Geiger, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training in June 2006. He was then assigned to Marine Corps Base Twenty-nine Palms, California for Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training where he earned the MOS of 0621, Field Radio Operator and promoted to the rank of Private First Class in July 2006.

In September 2006, Private First Class Buch reported for duty to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. In March 2007 he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in April 2007. In December 2008, Lance Corporal Buch was promoted to the rank of Corporal. In October 2008 he deployed again to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In October 2009, Corporal Buch reported for duty to 3d Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) Company, Marine Corps Security Force Regiment, Norfolk, Virginia. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in November 2009. While assigned to 3d FAST Company he deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and FAST Central Command (FASTCENT)Company in Bahrain.  During his deployment to FASTCENT, he participated in securing the United States Embassy, Manama, Bahrain and Cairo, Egypt during the Arab Spring of 2010. In May 2010 he attended Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival School, Camp Johnson, North Carolina and earned the additional MOS of 0918, Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival. Sergeant Buch held many billets to include: Company Communications Chief, FAST Platoon Radio Operator, FAST Squad Leader and FAST Platoon Guide.

In January 2012, Sergeant Buch reported for duty to Battery Echo, 2d Battalion 10th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In March 2012 he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He served as the Assistant Battery Radio Chief and Battery Radio Chief. In February 2014 Sergeant Buch attended Basic Security Guard School, Marine Corps Security Force Regiment, Cheatham Annex, Virginia and earned the additional MOS of 8152, Basic Security Guard.

In June 2014, Sergeant Buch reported for duty to FAST Company Pacific (FASTPAC), Yokosuka, Japan.  In October 2015, Sergeant Buch was promoted to Staff Sergeant. In January 2016, he deployed on the 7th Fleet Command Ship, USS Blue Ridge.  Staff Sergeant Buch held many billets to include Company Communications Chief, Training Chief and Operations Chief.

In May 2017, Staff Sergeant Buch reported for duty to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion.  He served as the Force Reconnaissance Company Communications Chief where he supported multiple training events in the CONUS, Norway and Tunisia.    
  
In July 2019, Staff Sergeant Buch reported to Drill Instructor School Class 4-19, Marine Corps Recruit Depot aboard Parris Island, South Carolina.  He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in October 2019.  Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, Gunnery Sergeant Buch reported to 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Company K.  He served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor.  In November 2021, Gunnery Sergeant Buch reported to Drill Instructor School, where he served as Squad Instructor, Recruit Training Order Instructor, and Advanced Curriculum Instructor.  

In January 2023, Gunnery Sergeant Buch was Frocked to his current rank of First Sergeant and reported to Air Defense Company Bravo, Marine Air Control Squadron 2 as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader.  From January to June 2024, First Sergeant Buch deployed to Djibouti, Africa in support of Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa and the defense of Camp Lemonnier.

In August 2024, First Sergeant Buch reported to Third Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina where he served as the November Company Unit Senior Enlisted Leader.  In February 2025, First Sergeant Buch was selected to serve as the Drill Instructor School East First Sergeant and reported to Drill Instructor School East in May 2025.  

First Sergeant Buch holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from American Military University.  His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one silver star in Lieu of sixth Award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in Lieu of third Award.
