First Sergeant Scott H. Prutch currently serves as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader (USEL), Drill Instructor School (DISC) East, Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island / Eastern Recruiting Region. He has performed in this capacity since March 2026.
1stSgt Prutch, the son of a Marine, is a native of New Bern, North Carolina. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October 2010 and attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island. Upon completion, he attended Marine Combat Training, Camp Geiger, North Carolina and then proceeded to Landing Support Specialist School at Marine Corps Base Camp Johnson, North Carolina where he received the Military Occupation Specialty of 0481.
His early assignments include service with Combat Logistics Regiment 37 Landing Support Company and Combat Logistics Battalion 4, where he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He later served with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, Landing Support Company, where he participated in various exercises throughout the United States Indo-Pacific Command and led a detachment to provide humanitarian assistance/disaster relief aid in the Philippines.
1stSgt Prutch reported to 2d Battalion, 3d Marines Division in Kaneohe Bay Hawaii, where he served as the Battalion Senior Landing Support Specialist, Logistics Chief, Ammunitions Chief and Battalion Unit Movement Control Center. He subsequently executed a Unit Deployment Program (UPD) and Korean Marine Exchange Program-14 deploying to Okinawa and South Korea. Additional assignments include 2d Transportation Support Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina serving as Landing Support Company Operations Chief. During this time, he deployed to Morrocco, Africa in support of African Lion-15 and Norway in support of Cold Response-16.
In 2017, 1stSgt Prutch graduated from Drill Instructor (DI) School at MCRD Parris Island and was assigned to Company B, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. 1stSgt Prutch served in the billets of DI, Experienced DI and Senior DI. 1stSgt Prutch then was transferred to DISC to serve as the Drill Master. In October 2019 he won Drill Instructor of the year for the Marine Corps. 1stSgt Prutch reported to HMH-461 to serve as the Squadron Gunnery Sergeant and Logistical Chief. In May 2023, 1stSgt Prutch was frocked to the rank of 1stSgt.
As a USEL, he served with Company K and Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California. He subsequently executed a UPD deploying to Okinawa and Deployment for Training (DFT) aboard Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico. He later served as the USEL for Company E, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, prior to his current assignment.
1stSgt Prutch personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with (3) gold stars and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with (2) gold stars.
