Commanding Officer, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion
Lt. Col. James T. Lowery

Lt. Col. James T. Lowery received his commission as a second lieutenant of Marines through the Officer Commissioning Program at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. Upon completion of The Basic School and Communications and Information Systems Officers School in 1998, Lowery served as the communications officer for Marine Wing Support Squadron-274.

He subsequently served as the communications officer for 1st Tank Battalion from 2000-2003. During this tour, he deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

He attended the Expeditionary Warfare School as a student from 2003-2004.

Lowery was then transferred to Joint Communications Support Element, where he served as a communications planning team officer in charge and the deputy for the joint Plans and Operations branch. During this tour, he participated in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, and Operations KATRINA and RITA as part of humanitarian relief operations.

Lowery was transferred to Quantico, Va., in 2007 and assumed duties for two years as the C2 systems officer for Expeditionary Warfare School. From 2009-2010, he served as a faculty advisor for Expeditionary Warfare School.

In 2010, Lowery attended Naval Command and Staff College in Newport, R.I. Upon completion in 2011, he was transferred to 3rd Marine Logistics Group and served as the assistant chief of staff for communications.

In 2014, Lowery was transferred to United States Special Operations Command at MacDill AFB where he served as the Contingency Operations Branch chief and the operations officer for C4 Enterprise Operations. During this tour, he deployed to Qatar and served as the communications officer for Combined Joint Interagency Task Force Syria.

In 2016, Lowery was transferred to 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD Parris Island, S.C., to serve as the battalion commander.

Lt. Col. Lowery has a masters in Telecommunications Management and a masters in Strategic Studies. He is married and has two children.
