Biography

Commanding Officer, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion
Col. Henry Centeno

Col. Henry Centeno graduated Oklahoma State University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management. After graduating college, he entered active duty and attended The Basic School and follow-on Financial Management School in 1995.

Centeno’s assignments in the operating forces include:

  • From May 2002 through November 2002, he was assigned as the director, Combined Task Force Fervent Archer (Fwd)
  • From August 2006 through February 2008, he was assigned as Multi-National Force-West disbursing officer in charge in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
  • From July 2008 through June 2009, he was assigned as the fiscal officer in charge, Civil Military Operations, II MEF (Fwd) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
  • From November 2011 through May 2012, he was assigned as financial management advisor and resource management officer in charge, NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan, Regional Support Command-North in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Centeno’s assignments in the supporting establishment include:

  • From May 1996 to April 2000, he was assigned as the deputy managerial accounting officer, MCB Camp Lejeune, N.C.
  • From May 2000 to June 2001, he was assigned as the deputy disbursing officer, I MEF, MCB Camp Pendleton, Calif.             
  • From July 2001 to May 2002, he was assigned as the deputy assistant chief of staff comptroller, Marine Corps Air Bases East.
  • From January 2004 to June 2005, he was assigned as the executive officer, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD Parris Island, S.C.
  • From June 2005 to July 2006, he was assigned as the operations officer, Recruit Training Regiment, MCRD Parris Island, S.C.
  • From February 2008 to July 2008, he was assigned as the disbursing officer, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
  • From July 2009 to October 2011 he was assigned as the deputy comptroller, MCRD/ERR Parris Island, S.C.
  • From August 2012 to May 2013 he was assigned as the head of Ground Financial Management Branch, Marine Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.
  • From June 2013 to July 2015 he was assigned as the head of Program Development Branch, Marine Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.
  • From August 2015 to June 2016 he was assigned as the assistant chief of staff, Resource Management, 2nd MLG, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

On July 1, 2016, Centeno assumed command of 2nd Recruit Training Battalion.
