Parris Island makes Marines, naturalized US citizens

Today's graduation ceremony was a landmark for the 464 new Marines of Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, and Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion. Of those, 17 new Marines also became naturalized U.S. citizens.

 

Among the new Marines are these distinguished graduates:

  • Pfc. Deion A. Douglas – Beaufort, S.C. – Honor Graduate, Platoon 2024

  • Pfc. Spencer A. O’Day  – Dayton, Ohio – Honor Graduate, Platoon 2025

  • Pfc. Tyler J. Canaway – Virginia Beach, Va. – Honor Graduate, Platoon 2026

  • Pfc. Keon S. Knight – Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – Honor Graduate, Platoon 2028

  • Pfc. Edwin J. Rodriguez – Londondeery, N.H. – Honor Graduate/ High PFT/CFT, Platoon 2029

  • Pfc. Noah M. Ebare – Muskegon, Mich. – Honor Graduate, Platoon 2030

  • Pfc. Grace K. Jacobs – Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Honor Graduate/ High PFT/CFT, Platoon 4012

  • Pfc. Avery C. Hurtado – Sandstone, Minn. – Honor Graduate, Platoon 4013

  • Pfc. Joshua C. Harris – Pikeville, Ky. – High Shooter, Platoon 2024

  • Pfc. Teresa Marquezmacias – Rockford, Ill. – High Shooter, Platoon 4012

     

Each new Marine persevered through 70 training days while passing each of the seven graduation requirements.

 

Additionally, before earning citizenship, applicants must demonstrate knowledge of the English language and American government, show good moral character and take the Oath of Allegiance to the U.S. Constitution.

Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry– level enlisted training for approximately 49 percent of male recruits and 100 percent of female recruits in the Marine Corps.
