MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. -- A recruit assigned to Recruit Training Regiment was injured today during a marksmanship training exercise at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island.
The recruit sustained a gunshot wound to the leg while training on the range and was immediately provided medical attention on site. The recruit was stabilized and subsequently airlifted to Memorial Health University Medical Center for further treatment.
At this time, the recruit's condition is being monitored by medical personnel. Out of respect for the family, no additional personal details will be released at this time. The incident is currently under investigation. It would be premature to speculate on the cause or circumstances until all facts have been gathered.
