Parris Island reduces some operations as rare ice storm approaches

Due to the inclement weather forecasted for Jan. 28-29, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island is taking steps to ensure the safety of its personnel.

Beginning at 1 p.m. on Jan. 28, many nonessential operations will be halted through Jan. 29 and nonessential base staff members will be permitted to leave work early due to anticipated travel hazards. Normal operations are scheduled to resume on Jan. 30.

  • Commissary: Closed early at 2 p.m. on Jan. 28 and all day Jan. 29.
  • Museum: Closed early at 1 p.m. on Jan. 28 and all day Jan. 29.
  • Child Development Center: Closed early at 2 p.m. on Jan. 28 and all day Jan. 29.

Closures for Marine Corps Community Services facilities, such as the main exchange, gym and library, are posted at http://www.mccs-sc.com/index.asp.

All events related to Extended Family Day on Jan. 29 have been cancelled.

Recruit training events will be adapted as necessary at the discretion of unit commanders.
