The course is comprised of 15 obstacles designed to help recruits build confidence by overcoming physical and mental challenges. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. The Parris Island Marine Band provides musical support for ceremonies,functions, and other occasions aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, and within the Beaufort Tri-Command and Southeast Region; supports the total force recruiting mission within the Eastern Recruiting Region; and
performs community relations and public outreach events across the United States in order to improve morale, inspire, motivate, and instill a sense of pride and patriotism, and to re-affirm our core values, customs, and traditions, and best represent the United States Marine Corps.
