Parris Island starts centennial celebration with 100km for 100 years

Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island kicked off their Centennial Celebration festivities with a 100-kilometer relay race and 5-kilometer fun run May 16, 2015.

Approximately 40 runners took part in the 5-kilometer fun run, and more than 240 Marines, sailors and civilians ran the relay race that began and ended under the iconic "We Make Marines" sign and featured a scenic route that took runners to the golf course, out the front gate, into the scenic town of Port Royal and to the naval hospital. Each team member ran an average of five miles on the course's 12 legs.

The winners of the relay race, a Navy team called "I B Profun," finished the race in seven hours and 26 minutes.
