Sgt. Maj. Sigrid Rivera

Sigrid Aixa Rivera enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2000. In October 2000, she reported to Marine Combat Training, Camp Geiger, North Carolina where upon graduation she was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class.  She then attended her Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) schools at Aviation Maintenance Squadron-2 (AMS-2), Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida and Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) unit, Cherry Point, NC, where she earned her primary MOS 6432-Avionics Electrician.

In July 2001, Private First Class Rivera reported for duty to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31 (MALS-31), Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, South Carolina.  She was assigned to Work Center 620, Avionics Division.  While attached to MALS-31, she participated on a Unit Deployment Program (UDP) to Iwakuni, Japan where she supported many operations after 9/11 while attached to Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA (AW)-332) and MALS-12 in 2002.

In March 2003, Lance Corporal Rivera reported to Marine Security Guard (MSG) School in Quantico, Virginia where she successfully graduated MSG School with Class 3-03.  She was then assigned to American Embassies Beijing, China; Berlin, Germany; and Colombo, Sri Lanka; serving as Watchstander; Assistant Detachment Commander, and Acting Detachment Commander. Upon completion of MSG duty, Sergeant Rivera reported to MALS-31, where she held the billets of Squadron Battery Safety Program Manager, Production Noncommissioned Officer, and Noncommissioned Officer In Charge of Work Center 620.  In September 2007, Sergeant Rivera deployed with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA)-312 to Iwakuni, Japan; she was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2008. 

In February 2010, Staff Sergeant Rivera reported to MALS-36, MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, where she held the billets of Staff Noncommission Officer in Charge for Work Center 990 (Mobile Facilities Maintenance), Mobile Facilities Coordinator, and Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI).  Prior to her detachment, she was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In April 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Rivera reported to MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina for Drill Instructor Duty.  Upon graduation, Gunnery Sergeant Rivera was assigned to 4th Recruit Training Battalion, Oscar Company, where she held the billets of Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Uniform Victim Advocate (UVA).  In addition, Gunnery Sergeant Rivera served as the Protocol Chief and Quality Assurance Evaluator for the Commanding General.

In July 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Rivera reported to MALS-24, MCAS, Kaneohe, Hawaii where she performed the duties of the Division Chief, Avionics Electrical shop and Squadron Uniform Victim Advocate.  In January 14, 2015, First Sergeant Rivera checked into Headquarters Battalion, MCBH where she served as the Service Company, Company First Sergeant.  She was also awarded the rank of 4th Degree Martial Arts Instructor Trainer.  On February 1, 2017, received orders to (Site Support) 1st/2d Platoon, Truck Company, 23d Marine Regiment, Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she served as Site’s Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant and 23d Marine Regiment’s Force Fitness Instructor.   Sergeant Major Rivera was promoted to her current rank and assigned to 4th Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD, Parris Island.  Sergeant Major Rivera has a Masters in IT Homeland Security Management with the University of Maryland GC and is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree.

Personal awards: Navy Marine Corps Commendation with 3 gold stars in lieu of fourth award, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 1 gold star in lieu of second award, and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service.
