LtCol McArthur enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in June of 1993 and served as both a rifleman and a small arms repairman with L 3/24 and I 3/24. During his enlisted career, he deployed in support of Operation Sea Signal and participated in two JTF-6 counter narcotics missions. While attending college at East Tennessee State University, he enrolled in the PLC commissioning program. He was commissioned in 1999.
After completing The Basic School and Artillery Officers Basic Course, he reported to Battery K, 2/11 at Camp Pendleton, CA, where he served as a Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer, and Battery Liaison Officer. During his tour, he deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and as the Artillery Liaison Officer for 3rd Battalion 5th Marines in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
From October 2003 until June 2006, Captain McArthur served as a Platoon Commander and Guard Officer with Marine Corps Security Force Company, Bangor, Washington. Following this assignment, he attended Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA.
Captain McArthur reported to Twentynine Palms, CA, in June 2007 for duty with 3rd Battalion 11th Marines. He deployed to Iraq from October 2007 until November 2008 as the Operations Advisor to the 27th Iraqi Brigade. Upon his return, Captain McArthur assumed command of Battery M, 3/11. In April 2009, he assumed duties as the battalion operations officer and deployed with the battalion to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In June 2010, Major McArthur transferred to Quantico, VA to attend the Marine Corps Command and Staff College where he was a distinguished graduate.
In July 2011, Major McArthur reported to Advisor Training Group, Twentynine
Palms, CA, where he served as the Training Officer and Lead Advisor SME. In
July 2014, Major McArthur attended the School of Advanced Warfighting,
Quantico, VA. Upon graduation, he reported to III MEF where he served as the
Future Operations Korea Plans Officer until June 2017 when he was assigned
to the Marine Air Ground Staff Training Program where he served as the lead
planning and command and control SME.
In May 2018, LtCol McArthur reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris
Island, SC where he assumed command of Second Recruit Training Battalion.
LtCol McArthur’s personal awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
